The Oil & Water Don't Mix campaign was formed with a simple idea: to raise awareness of the long-forgotten pipelines that pierce the heart of the Great Lakes at the Straits of Mackinac. Our first rally at the Straits in July 2013 was attended by 500 people, which pretty much summed up the entire public awareness of the pipeline at the time.

After many months of hard work, the influence of the campaign has swelled to include leadership by more than two dozen partner organizations and is supported by almost 50 additional groups, nearly 200 businesses, many tribal governments, and many thousands of concerned citizen supporters. State and federal lawmakers have introduced resolutions and bills addressing some of our concerns regarding the Enbridge "Line 5" oil pipelines in the Straits. A Michigan pipeline advisory board is examining the risks of, and alternatives to, the Straits pipelines. Artists and activists are embracing our goal to shut down the flow of oil in the Straits.
